Naming My Nemesis: A Poem

I don’t know what to call you.
I want to be kind.
I want to be ruthless.
You fuck with my mind.

We’ve been dancing a while.
We’ve wrestled. We’ve clashed.
I’m hurt, but I smile.
Your idols are smashed.

You danced well. But you lost.
Don’t feel bad, and don’t fear.
We all bear the cost.
There’s no victory here.

You drain me. You doubt me.
But you’re just a voice in my head.
I found the “Off” button.
This is your end.

The voice falls silent: a violent fact.
I turned off a tyrant: a noble act.
